Hannelore Fobo, Text (1995):

The history of the unique collection began with Oleg Kotelnikov’s „Still life at +90˚ from 1990. Back then, resident St. Petersburg artist Evgenij Kozlov invited the best-known St. Petersburg artists to his studio, „The Russian Field.“ Kozlov provided each artist with paint and a two by three meter large canvas to create a work at that unusually grand scale.

Kozlov has since moved to Berlin and opened his studio „The Russian Field 2“ where he heads the ever growing 2x3m collection, which now includes paintings, photographs and works on paper of this size. He hopes that works from all over Russia will soon be incorporated into the collection, which is to become the foundation of a Museum of Russian Art in Berlin, devoted to exhibiting Russia’s newest artistic trends.
